How to begin

Enter one clear question or topic. You can ask about a relationship, career situation, decision, emotional pattern, personal direction or another area where you want a concise overview.

Keep the question focused on one situation so the three positions can form one connected timeline.

How to read the three cards

Start with the Past card to understand what helped create the current situation. Move to Present to see what is active now, then read Future as the direction the existing pattern may take.

After that, read all three again as one sequence and notice what is changing, what is repeating and what appears to be gaining momentum.

1 — Past

The Past position shows the influence behind the present situation. It can represent an earlier event, decision, habit, relationship dynamic, emotional pattern or lesson that still matters now.

Ask what from the past is still active and what may already be losing its influence.

2 — Present

The Present card is the centre of the spread. It shows the condition, pressure, opportunity or emotional tone that is most active around the question now.

Compare it with the Past to see what has changed and with the Future to understand what this present pattern may be creating next.

3 — Future

The Future position shows the likely direction of the current pattern if the main influences continue. It can point toward development, resolution, delay, growth, change or a new stage.

Read this as direction rather than certainty. New choices, conversations and circumstances can change how the situation unfolds.

Past to Present

Compare the first two cards to see whether the present is continuing an older pattern or responding to it in a new way.

Similar cards can show continuity, while a strong contrast can suggest a turning point or a shift in perspective.

Present to Future

The relationship between the second and third cards is often the most useful part of the spread. It shows how the energy active now may develop next.

Ask what in the Present card is likely to strengthen, weaken or transform as it moves toward the Future card.

When all three cards repeat one theme

If several cards share the same suit, emotional tone or type of message, the spread may be emphasizing one dominant pattern across time.

In that case, pay attention to the subtle differences between the three cards instead of looking for three unrelated meanings.

Upright and reversed cards

Upright cards often show energy that is easier to recognize or express. Reversed cards can show delay, resistance, internalization, uncertainty or a theme that is not moving as directly.

A reversed card is not automatically negative. Its meaning depends on whether it appears in the Past, Present or Future position and how it relates to the other two cards.

Repeated suits

Wands can emphasize action, ambition and creative drive. Cups can emphasize emotions and relationships. Swords can emphasize thoughts, communication and decisions. Pentacles can emphasize work, money, stability and practical concerns.

When the same suit appears more than once, that life area may carry extra weight across the spread.

Major Arcana

Major Arcana cards can give one position more weight and may point toward a larger turning point, lesson or period of change.

Notice whether a Major Arcana card appears in the Past, Present or Future because its position changes how that larger theme is expressed.

When the Future looks difficult

A challenging Future card does not mean the situation is fixed. Instead, read it as a warning about where the present pattern may lead if nothing changes.

Return to the Present card and ask what can be handled differently before the situation reaches that next stage.

When the Future looks positive

A supportive Future card shows potential, but it still depends on what is happening in the Present. Look for the action, attitude or choice in the middle card that helps create the better direction.

What to pay attention to

• Compare Past with Present before interpreting Future.
• Look for repeated suits, numbers or Major Arcana.
• Notice whether the Present card feels like continuation or change.
• Pay attention to reversed cards and where they appear in the timeline.
• Ask what the Future card is developing from in the Present.
• Look for one theme that connects all three positions.
