The book Buddhism Stinks seriously addresses the issue that Buddhist practitioners lack a good sense of humor! The premise of the work is that Zen koans are the ultimate jokes, and Zen literature is jam packed with one liners and punch lines that are there to slap us silly so that we realize the absurdity of life, or better put our not seeing it! This is not to be misunderstood as the author saying that we should take Buddhist practice lightly, but rather he's saying that it takes serious practice to gain insight into the ironic nature of things. The authors intention, put in his best Zen speak, was to write a funny book and a serious book, or maybe a seriously funny book and a ridiculously serious book that was candid about the in's and out's, up's and down's of pragmatic, realistic practice. He hopes that whether you end up laughing at him or with him, that he makes you laugh for a change, a change for the better...seriously!
